What is McTimoney Chiropractic?
McTimoney Chiropractic is based on an understanding that the optimal function of the musculoskeletal system impacts directly to the function of the nervous system and overall health.
Chiropractic is a gentle, effective whole body method of assessing and adjusting the bones of your body to improve the alignment of your skeleton and soft tissue release to help maintain the changes. Through these processes the nervous system is encouraged to work more efficiently.
The purpose of chiropractic care is to realign and rebalance your body to relieve pain and discomfort, and increase mobility.
Who is it for?
Chiropractic is not just backs, or for the sports elite. It is appropriate for people of all ages and levels of physical activity. The precise, gentle, whole body approach of McTimoney chiropractic care, makes it especially suitable for babies, children, pregnant women and the elderly.
The following conditions can benefit from chiropractic care:
- Back, neck and shoulder pain
- Pain, discomfort and stiffness in joints
- Muscular aches
- Sports injuries
- Arthritic pain
Chiropractic is founded on the principle that the body can heal itself when the skeletal system is correctly aligned and therefore the nervous system is functioning properly. It takes a structural, nutritional, and emotional approach to health care, aiming to gently restore the natural and delicate balance that exists in all healthy individuals.
In essence, chiropractic removes the restrictions to healing and staying well.
What happens in a session?
During your first appointment, your Chiropractor will take time to understand what you want from your Chiropractic treatment. They will take a history of previous conditions, injuries and existing symptoms followed by a physical examination. A full treatment is included in the first appointment.
If at any point your practitioner has clinical concerns beyond the remit of their Chiropractic speciality she will advise and refer you appropriately.
Treatment is very much a collaboration between you both.
How many sessions will I need?
Most people find between two and six sessions sufficient to address straight forward problems. The number and frequency of treatments will depend on a series of factors, including:
- Extent of injury
- Duration of injury
- General fitness
- Stress (muscle tension and stress on your nervous system)
The anticipated number of sessions will be discussed with you prior to treatment. Once you are up and running, you may choose to schedule regular check-ups a few times a year to keep chronic conditions under control.
