What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a system of medicine developed over 200 years ago, by doctor and chemist Samuel Hahnemann. It is used by 300 million people worldwide in over 80 countries. It is very gentle, rapid and permanent and can safely be used by everyone, including new born babies, pregnant women and the elderly. Contrary to popular belief, it can also safely be used alongside conventional medicines and is without side effect.
Homeopathy works on the principle that “Like Cures Like”. A remedy in its natural state will induce certain symptoms in a healthy person; the same remedy can help with similar symptoms in an unhealthy person. For example Allium Cepia (onion) is a remedy often used in hay fever, with symptoms including burning and stinging eyes. The same symptoms you would experience when peeling an onion. However, not all hay fever sufferers for example, experience the same symptoms. Some may experience a tickly throat, itchy palate or burning nose. A homeopath will look at the individual’s unique symptoms and identify a remedy that is specific to that person.
What does a Homeopathic Consultation Involve?
The initial consultation can vary, but will usually take between 60 – 90 minutes, with follow up appointments around 30 – 45 minutes. The Homeopath will want to know your presenting symptoms, medical history and what medicines or supplements you are taking if any; any significant life events and how you are generally as an individual.
What Conditions Can Benefit From Homeopathy?
Homeopathy can be helpful in any condition that would normally benefit from conventional medicine. These might include: anxiety, depression, hay fever, headaches, menstrual and menopausal problems, childhood illnesses, stress, post traumatic stress (PTSD), teething, travel sickness, skin problems, musculo-skeletal problems.
